Colorado Avenue Esplanade integrates the Expo Light Rail into the downtown area, streamlining intersection functions and guiding passengers to their business, shopping, cultural and entertainment destinations.

Drastically altering the street design while tying into adjoining properties at the property lines was the most significant streetscape retrofit hurdle. Fuscoe engineered new street sections and intersection grading to narrow the street and create wide sidewalk pedestrian expansions while retaining access into all adjoining property building entrances and floors. This design required relocation of numerous storm drain inlets and detailed grading of gutters and pavements to ensure proper drainage was maintained.
